| Site Preparation |

If you are acting as your own project manager or “general contractor” you need to be ready for the challenges any large project can hold. Be sure you have completed all of your planning in advance – running changes and work that has to be redone are expensive and can cause long delays. Also focus on the order that work must be done. Have all of your structural, electrical and plumbing completed, including any preparation for fixtures (like recessed lighting, sink brackets and ceiling fan mounts), before you do the drywall. Sound obvious? You will need to carefully schedule your trades to do the work in the right order and at the right time.
Below is a primer with some of the questions you need to answer before your cabinet installation can occur. There is a story behind each one!
- Is my project plan (all steps and all trades) final and does Traemand have a copy of the final cabinetry plan?
- Is the estimate from Traemand based on the final cabinetry plan?
- Have I a scheduled a time for cabinet installation and has it been confirmed?
- Are all of the parts for the final cabinetry plan delivered and within 15 feet of the installation location?
- Is the old kitchen, closet or bath removed?
- Is the structural, electrical and plumbing work in my project plan complete?
- Are the wall surfaces prepared? Is the drywall or other wall surface in and prepped (taped and floated, final sanded, textured…)?
- Are the wall surfaces painted and ready only for post-project touch-up?
- Is the flooring in and covered with protective paper or plastic? NOTE: laminate flooring should be placed on top of existing flooring after cabinetry is installed.
- Is the space climate controlled and is the heat or a/c working (to avoid expansion or contraction of the installed cabinets)?
